SKI SLOPE CONDITIONS Based on my trips and friends trips
Hi.....Skiing has been great....
WELL WE ARE BLESSED - SKIING TILL THE END OF MARCH
3/17
Ski liberty. St Patty's Day. Bonnie and I got in maybe the last day local. Wet Spring conditions. Crud was tough to work used up the legs real fast. No line...had the mountain to ourselves. We tested ZARDOZ NotWax since it was supposed to work great in wet conditions. It worked on my skis, her shaped skies and 2 snowboards. All of us got double the speed. See the test results.
A good day on the Slopes!
3/12-13
Well Seven Springs got hammered all week (total of 25" of snow before the storm on Sunday). Friday we had the slopes all to ourselves. Skied till we dropped. Saturday..Crowded but if you are good enough stay over on the North FACE...Bathrooms and food at the top lodge. Some icey patches showed up due to traffic but in all great snow conditions. the glades had plenty of powder. Bonnie (my race coach) and I took SILVER in NASTAR on Sat. My handycap is now 32 down from 41. My best time was 19.88. I owe it all to my coach...Thanks Bon Bon..Going to Liberty for St. Pattys day.
3/6-7
Hey. What a snow storm. Where you ask...Seven Springs. I went with my ski buddy Bonnie <SMILE> Right as we hit the slopes at 6:00 pm Sat the rain changed to snow. It was cold, windy, foggy...but no scratchy scratchy stuff..pure powder. Spent the night at Budget INN (814) 443-6441 talk to Gary (tell him birdman sent you) 24$ per person per night. 2 beds, frig, tv, shower (with plenty of hot water). Next day beautiful, fluffy 10 inches of snow. Bonnie and I took bronze in NASTAR. Skied , smiled, yelled, hooted, real nice.....Thanks Bon Bon!
2/25-26
I went to Windham for 2 days of skiing. What a lovely place. Thurs no crowds no lines. Pace picked up on Friday. We did manage to get 2 inches of real snow on Thurs night. Best time is the mid week. No one around you will have the place to yourself. I was very impressed with the length of the med runs. Was very impressed with the snowboarders. Saw some nice Air and they didn't seem to sit all the time and get into your way. So if you want a big mountain 1,600 feet. and close by give windham a try.
2/21
Ski Liberty Last leg of Triple Crown: Came in 5th in my class (better trained racers). But as a prize drawing for the NASTAR forms I won a family advantage card. The conditions were great. No lines all lifts operating and most trails open.
2/13, 14/99
Ski Liberty: Sat WSI race & NASTAR. Base holding. They made snow sat night. Raced triple crown sunday. Conditions great. good snow. make sure you wax your skis. No lines all lifts operating. New Handycap in NASTAR 41. Made 30-39 mens maryland NASTAR top 10.
Going to Ski Windham next week.
Other resorts nearby: Good coverage on 70% of the trails. Best days to go are after they make snow and groom the night before. Some resorts in PA have water restrictions so making snow is kinda tough. Call ahead to be sure. Some friends went to Wisp. Good conditions.
2/7/99
I came in third for my age group on the Liberty Triple crown race on white lightning. Won a 2 day ski and stay at Ski Windham (New York). NASTAR I made my GOAL (BRONZE MEDAL) Handycap of 45 down from 51 on Feb 5. The conditions were ok. Much loose frozen granular.
2/5/99
Went to Roundtop for NASTAR racing. Training for race on Sunday.. Rather hard packed and ice with a little frozen loose granular. Great for racing though. I missed a bronze by 5/100th of a second. My handycap was 51 down from 72 on jan 10.The nice thing is the race coaches give you free coaching. No lines. Didn't fall. ice is no problemo now.
2/1/99
Blew the afternoon off. They made about 8 inches of snow the night before. All runs groomed except for lower eastwind mogal field. I took a class lesson (level 7-8) I was the only one in the class so it was one on one. Well learned a new way to hold poles for high speed and balance. I will be racing the Giant Salom triple crown race on Sunday..White lightning a black diamond will be the trail. The pole position worked very well.
1/30/99
Late night skiing...Frozen Granular with many mogals. The Front and whitneys way were groomed. The front lift only had one double working...The back had no lines.
1/24/1999
Ah! the rain stopped.. The wind dried out the slopes... the temp dropped to freezing. I went night skiing at Ski Liberty...Still 98 percent open. No brown spots or bad areas even after the above normal temps and rain. I skied my butt off. Not crowded on the back no lift lines just fast fast fast and not as wet as you think.
1/15/1999
Well I hope you didn't miss the Free Ski day at Ski Liberty. Thanks Subaru and MIX 107.3....The rain turned to snow on the way to Ski Liberty. It was so nice I took on the Double Black Diamonds on the back. Didn't even fall. 98 percent of the trails were open. yahoo....
Called Blue Knob today and they have all trails open (34) about 3 hours away. It's cold..but it has great terrain.
1/9/1999 and 1/10/1999
Ski Liberty and 98 Rock late nite ski was great. Crowds yes but no lift lines on the back. On late nite skiing always arrive before 8 PM to avoid crowds. The snow was hard packed and fast. They groommed dipsy doodle and hevanly at 9 PM to break up the run. As usual more powder on the sides. Sunday I went to race NASTAR. Best time 32.43. I need to shave off 1.2 seconds for a bronze. I will be there on FRIDAY for the MIX107.3 Free ski day. Don't forget the WTPA late nite ski at Roundtop on 1/23/1999.
1/4/1999
I went to Ski Liberty again this weekend New Year's eve and Saturday 1/2/1999. The base was 24 to 36 inches. Some Ice patches formed in the middle of the Blues and blacks. Still powder on the edges and use the side of the mogals for control. The band in the bar was great..good tunes and fun. Sat the ice wasn't as bad since it snowed earlier. More trails opened up.
12/28/1998
I went to Ski Liberty on Christmas day, 12/25; 12/26 and 12/27 for night skiing. The snow conditions were fantastic. 8 Trails open 20 - 30 inch base. Wax held up real nice. The snow was packed and great for GS speed.
12/22/1998
